All Things Adoption

All Things Adoption

It seems that lately I eat, sleep and breathe adoption.  It is obviously a huge part of our personal life, but has also become part of my work life as well.  As a result, I spend an awful lot of time thinking about adoption… the children, the process, the problem.  I have always said we will adopt more than one child.  That’s a given.  Every child deserves a family.  Being a part of a family is a basic human right.  Kids deserve the chance to belong, to be loved unconditionally and to have an unwavering support system.  While the family unit will undoubtedly have it’s flaws it still provides a safety and a comfort that can’t be found anywhere else.

What inspires me are the people who make families without biological ties.  Not only do adoptive families do this, but also people who see a need and reach out to fill it.  Perhaps you make room at your table for college kids away from home, or provide a father figure for a boy who doesn’t have anyone to look up to… these are non-traditional routes to family but family nonetheless.

Choosing the adoption path for your family isn’t always the crazy ordeal that we sometimes make it out to be.  It’s not deserving of a medal, it’s not praise-worthy or adventurous.  Adopted kids aren’t “lucky” to have families.  It’s simply answering the call to provide for a child who DESERVES a family.  It’s meeting a basic need.  It is obedience.  Adoption is a gift not only to the children who need families, it is a gift to the family and those around them.  God has loved us in an unfathomable way, it’s only fitting that we love others as He has loved us.

We are adopted… and so we adopt.
